Mastika
Mastika is the brand name for a natural dietary supplement containing the active ingredient mastic gum, the natural resin of a small Mediterranean tree. Mastic has been used for centuries by traditional healers as a herbal remedy to relieve abdominal symptoms (i.e. stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, dyspepsia etc.), treat stomach and duodenal ulcers (peptic ulcers), and other related gastrointestinal disorders.
According to proven clinical trials, mastic gum is active against the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, which is closely associated to peptic ulcers. In studies, mastic gum killed all the examined strains of H. pylori, including those that were resistant to anti-ulcer drugs. If used as directed, Mastika can help to eradicate this common problem and, help to restore digestive function and maintain good gastrointestinal health.
Directions For Use
Initial Recommended Dose:
Take four capsules before bed or on an empty stomach for 4 weeks.
Maintenance Dose:
Two capsules per day
If preferred or if you are a vegetarian, capsules can be split and the contents mixed with water or a soft drink, such as fruit juice.
Contra-indications
No undesirable effects have ever been attributed to Mastika.
If you are suffering from Helicobacter pylori infection you should continue to take your other medications (e.g. antacids, proton pump inhibitors) and follow the necessary precautions as advised by your doctor for treatment.
